SAN JOSE, CA – Super Micro Computer, Inc. (SMCI), a global leader in enterprise computing, storage, networking solutions, and green computing technology, announced an extension of its market-proven ultra-dense storage solutions with new 60-bay and 90-bay solutions. These best-in-class high-capacity storage and expansion systems are optimized for cloud-scale storage implementations as well as HPC storage applications.

This new top-loading architecture delivers the improved flexibility, modularity, and serviceability that customers need. Both 60-bay and 90-bay systems are available in single-node and dual-node configurations, where the drives evenly split between each node. Also, the drives can be in a storage bridge bay (SBB) configuration for high availability, in which both nodes have access to all the drives, and one node backs up the other in case of a failure. With a modular, tool-less design, all key onboard systems – hot-swap server nodes, expanders, fan modules, power supplies, and drives – are fully optimized for easy serviceability by a single technician.

Supermicro’s new high-capacity top-loading systems are optimized for enterprise environments, and support scale-up and scale-out architectures. These 4U systems feature 60x or 90x hot-swap 2.5″/3.5″ SAS3/SATA3 bays plus 2x onboard PCI-E M.2 slots and 2x internal slim SATA SSD slots. The single-node system also supports 2x rear hot-swap 2.5″ bays for OS mirroring and optional 4x NVMe U.2 bays for fast caching. At maximum configuration, the system supports 1,440 terabytes of cost-optimized storage. The single- and dual-node systems use 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors in a dual-socket configuration with 16x DIMM slots per server node.

Supermicro first announced support for NVIDIA HGX™ A100 configurations in May with its new high-density 2U and 4U servers based on the four- and eight-way NVIDIA HGX A100 boards. With A100 GPUs now also available in PCIe form factor, customers can expect a major performance boost across Supermicro’s extensive portfolio of multi-GPU servers when they are equipped with the new NVIDIA A100 GPUs.

Bamboo Systems’ patent-pending Parallel Arm Node Designed Architecture (PANDA), is a revolutionary new approach to server design, crafted to meet the demands of both modern software structures and the challenge of energy-hogging data centers. PANDA-based servers use embedded systems methodologies designed to run modern microservices-based workloads while consuming minimal energy and delivering industry-leading density for high throughput computing. Kubernetes-based applications, edge computing, data analytics and AI/ML deployments are solutions that are well suited for Bamboo.


Bamboo’s PANDA-based systems utilize Arm processors and deliver individually balanced servers by reducing many of the well-known traditional server architecture bottlenecks, often caused by very large processors having to share limited resources. Each B1000N system can be configured with either one or two blades in 1U, with each blade containing four compute nodes and a non-blocking embedded L3 switch exposing dual 40Gb QSFP uplink ports. Each compute node is an independent Arm-based server capable of running Linux, or other compliant operating systems. A fully configured B1008N consists of 8 servers providing 128 cores, 16 DDR4 memory channels to 512GB DRAM, 24GB/s to 64TB of NVMe storage, fed through 160Gb/s network bandwidth – all in a single rack unit – at approximately 50% of the cost of a traditional Intel-based server.

Bamboo servers include a web-based interface, the intuitive Pandamonium™ Management Software, based on Bamboo’s REST API for integration with orchestration platforms. Pandamonium provides control over system configuration, status updates of components, and the ability to power off individual compute nodes if they are not being used, enabling additional energy savings.

B1000N Series benefits include:
