e-commerce

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group, today announced the launch of their second availability zone (“Availability Zone B”) in Malaysia to expand its cloud footprint and bolster its cloud capacity, serving increasing customer demand locally and in the region. The new zone complements Availability Zone A which was launched last year in heightening cloud security and ensuring business continuity through resilient cloud infrastructure.

Alibaba Cloud will also continue to invest in Malaysia by setting up the first cloud based Anti-DDoS Scrubbing Center in August. The center will mitigate risks and offer customers the highest level of protection against stronger DDoS attacks. The new center will feature a variety of security functions including Anti-DDoS Pro, a service that defends against all types of DDoS attacks.

“I welcome Alibaba Cloud’s effort to further support and enhance Malaysia’s digital economy. The world moves ever closer towards e-commerce and we see a considerable surge in demand by local industries to participate in this new economy on a global platform. Malaysia is now pushing ahead with efforts to strengthen its infrastructure with a view towards making access to the Internet a basic human right and categorising facilities which enhance access to broadband as a public utility. The success of our trade on a global platform with assistance of companies like Alibaba Cloud depends on an efficient Internet environment. The advanced technology afforded by Alibaba Cloud opens new opportunities, which I believe will quite substantially benefit Malaysia in its efforts to raise competition and efficiency in this new industry,” said Gobind Singh Deo, Malaysia’s Minister of Communications and Multimedia.

In addition to ensuring high availability and resiliency, Availability Zone B offers payment hardware security modules (HSM), elastic computing, database, networking and monitoring services. It is also certified for SAP hosting, the German-based global market leader in enterprise application software.

“Alibaba Cloud is committed to bringing elastic, scalable and secure cloud products and services to our Malaysian customers. The launch of our Availability Zone B and Anti-DDoS Scrubbing Center will enable us to offer even greater security and choice for our customers. At the same time, the launch will facilitate knowledge sharing with local enterprises and talents on how to use Alibaba Cloud technology to achieve a highly secure and resilient cloud infrastructure,” said Kenny Tan, Malaysia General Manager at Alibaba Cloud.

These new developments in Malaysia come on the back of a number of initiatives by Alibaba Cloud. Earlier this year, the company announced the collaboration with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) in the Malaysia City Brain Initiative to create a smart city powered by AI and big data.

CHICAGO – ServerCentral introduced its Recover Anywhere managed service powered by Veeam Backup & Replication (part of Veeam Availability Suite). Recover Anywhere is a fully managed service that enables customers to use any infrastructure or cloud platform as the restore point for their applications, data and servers. That means customers can restore data on-demand to their on-premise infrastructure, a ServerCentral Enterprise or Private Cloud, a Managed Amazon Web Services (AWS) solution, or another other cloud provider.

“People often neglect recovery. But backing up is just one part of the equation, it doesn’t do you much good if you can’t recover,” said Tom Kiblin, VP of Managed Services at ServerCentral. “We want organizations to be as confident in the recovery as they are in their backup. RTO/RPO shouldn’t be unknowns or even variables. They should be certainties.”

Everything accessible to everyone, 24x7x365, is now the minimum business requirement and Recover Anywhere is designed to keep customers always-on, regardless of their application architecture or cloud platforms. With Recover Anywhere, ServerCentral’s Managed Services team works with customers to guarantee their recovery time and point objectives (RTO and RPO) are defined and met on an application by application basis, and that their destinations for recovery and restore can meet the changing nature of their business.

“Hybrid cloud environments are the norm today, but the increased criticality and sprawl of data introduces new challenges to maintaining an always-on digital experience,” said Matt Kalmenson, Vice President of Sales and Service Provider Sales, Americas, at Veeam. “ServerCentral’s approach to availability goes beyond backup, leveraging intelligent approaches to data management and the managed service expertise needed to make Hyper-Availability a reality. We are pleased to have ServerCentral as a partner in our effort to solve the key challenges of our joint customers.”

The Recover Anywhere service includes:

  • Complete configuration & administration by ServerCentral’s Managed Services experts
  • Backup, retention and restore processes and schedule designed around customer requirements
  • Support for applications, data and complete server environments
  • Quarterly review of backup and retention schedule and processes
  • Annual testing of application, data and server restore processes

Recover Anywhere is part of ServerCentral’s Managed Backup & Recovery Service portfolio, all of which are configured, administered, monitored, and supported by the ServerCentral Managed Services team. ServerCentral works with customers to understand their data protection needs and configure the service parameters to support their unique business, financial, and technological requirements. Customers can adjust the frequency of backups, retention policy, encryption methods, data locations and restore processes to fit these requirements.

SAN JOSE, CA – Super Micro Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMCI), a global leader in enterprise computing, storage, networking solutions and green computing technology, is driving the server and storage industry’s rapid transition to 25G Ethernet Networking technology with a robust selection of network interface card (NIC) and top-of-rack (ToR) switch solutions.

As memory, processor and storage performance increase, the demand for expanded network capacity follows naturally. When combined with increased system performance, 25G Ethernet helps enterprises deliver new products and services to market faster. These innovations support smarter machines and bigger data with 2.5 times faster single lane network performance than 10G – all at about the same cost. According to industry analysts, 25G will triple in volume over the next year or two.

“The time for transitioning from 10G to 25G networking is now, and the transition is happening very quickly!” said Charles Liang, President and CEO of Supermicro. “Self-driving cars, AI, machine learning, big data and NVMe-over-Fabric (NVMe-oF) are all pushing system performance to the limits and driving the demand for more network bandwidth. With higher performance, better scalability, as well as an easy and clear upgrade path to 100 Gigabit Ethernet networks, customers are upgrading their networks to 25G to increase network throughput – meeting the needs of those applications that are now hungry for even more bandwidth.”

Supermicro offers a wide range of 25G NIC solutions that empower customers to future-proof nearly any Supermicro system by equipping it with 25G Ethernet Networking technology. All of Supermicro’s 25G products are dual-speed, so they can operate at either 10G or 25G. This offers superior investment protection for companies only beginning to evolve from a 10G to a 25G network infrastructure. Customers can install these systems today and interconnect with their existing infrastructure; when the time to upgrade to 25G comes, it is merely a configuration update – no need for a disruptive and costly hardware change.

For those ready to upgrade their ToR switches to 25G, Supermicro offers both its flagship 100G switch and its new standalone 25G switch. The SSE-C3632S is a 100G switch that can be configured with each of its 32 ports split by four to support up to 128 connections at 25G. Alternatively, the new SSE-F3548S offers an extremely cost competitive option with 48 ports of 25G and six uplinks of 100G, and the uplinks can be split by four to support as many as 72 connections at 25G.

Supermicro also offers a 25G switch (SBM-25G-100) with the X11 SuperBlade®. This switch can be used with either the 8U SuperBlade enclosure (SBE-820J) or the 6U SuperBlade enclosure (SBE-610J) and features twenty 25G downlink connections, four QSFP28 ports where each port can be configured as 40G or 100G uplink connections. Using splitter cables, individual 40G ports can be split into four 10G ports or the 100G port can be split into four 25G ports. Like the standard 25G ToR switch, the blade switch auto-negotiates and is compatible with 10G networking, providing customers a clear path to future 25G upgrades to their existing datacenter infrastructure. Customers who are familiar with the Blade networking management interface of MBM-GEM-004 will benefit from using a similar GUI/CLI interface with the new 25G switch. Additionally, it supports the latest networking protocols required for today’s datacenter and cloud infrastructure environments. The 25G mezzanine card that interfaces with the blade server supports RDMA/RoCE, DPDK, packet pacing, flow steering and Ethernet offloads.

25G Ethernet improves productivity in many diverse applications. For example, Web centric or e-commerce business models always drive demand for more network bandwidth. Similarly, high-performance computing (HPC), distributed applications and clustered databases need fast networks as well. And NVMe-over-Fabric (NVMe-oF) absolutely drives up the requirement for higher NIC and backbone network speed. Supermicro’s many 25G solutions can support these applications effectively.
