DALLAS, TX – Unite Private Networks (UPN), a leading provider of high-capacity, fiber-based communication networks, today announces it is the first carrier offering a full suite of high-bandwidth Ethernet, IP, dark fiber and data transport services to customers in the new DataBank Plano, Texas data center. UPN recently constructed the backbone network connecting DataBank locations in Dallas, Richardson, and Plano.

The new fiber adds to UPN’s existing extensive Plano infrastructure and will enable customers to have diverse routes to some of the most important connectivity hubs in the Dallas/Fort Worth metro.


UPN already provides services in DataBank’s two other facilities in the Dallas metro, the Downtown Dallas data center, as well as the North Dallas data center in Richardson.

COLUMBIA, MISSOURI — Bluebird Network, a Midwest telecommunications company, has begun an expansion of its Bluebird Underground Data Center, located in a Springfield Missouri underground mine. The expansion design is underway and the project will go to bid in late May.

This expansion represents an additional 4,700 square-feet of white space, bringing the total to 22,300 square-feet. The entire data center currently occupies 80,000 square-feet of mine space, with the remaining space being dedicated to critical mechanical and electrical support systems.


In addition to the increased white space, the expansion includes a third 2MW generator, another Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system and a 10,000 gallon auxiliary fuel storage tank. With these improvements, the Bluebird Underground Data Center can independently operate for up to four days on generator power, deliver additional A/B power to its customers and improve the overall operational performance of the data center.

All elements of this expansion will be located underground, continuing its’ design strategy of placing all critical mechanical and electrical systems underground to ensure operational stability. This unique approach leverages the full protection provided by the data center’s natural surroundings, ensuring the best shield from both natural and unnatural disasters.

This expansion is the second of three planned since Bluebird Network acquired the data center in 2014. The first expansion, completed in 2016, added approximately 4,000 square-feet of white space. The third expansion will represent approximately 7,000 square-feet of additional white space in the future.

The initial phase of the $20 million facility includes approximately 16,000 sq. ft. of raised floor space, as well as infrastructure support and office space. The new data center will further enhance TierPoint’s ability to meet growing market demand for hybrid IT solutions, including cloud, colocation, disaster recovery and IT security services. With 24x7x365 onsite security, technical and engineering support, the expanded facility includes dedicated space to be used by clients for their business needs. The design of the building will allow for additional phases of expansion, as needed.


“We have already begun to install clients and are currently negotiating with a couple of major institutions that have shown interest in the facility,” said Todd Currie, TierPoint Vice President and General Manager.
