Jakarta, Indonesia – Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group, today announced the commencement of operations for its first data center in Indonesia. The data center is the first global public cloud platform in the country that will now provide a local choice for Indonesian businesses, particularly SMEs and startups, by offering a powerful, reliable and cost-effective cloud product and services. Alibaba Cloud’s data center will also help Indonesian customers with low latency or data residency requirements to store and process data within the country.

The data center will offer a comprehensive suite of cloud products and services ranging from elastic computing, database service, networking, security and middleware to analytics and big data. This full range of Alibaba Cloud’s solutions will satisfy the surging needs of local enterprises across a range of industries including e-commerce, media, Fintech, gaming, logistics, transportation and manufacturing. In particular, the big data service “MaxCompute”, a big data platform that allows users to store and process massive amounts of structural data to levels as high as terabyte or even petabyte, will bring sophisticated data intelligence services such as data processing, analytics and machine learning to Indonesian businesses, empowering data-driven innovation and business transformation.

Powered by a fast in-memory database that can ingest and analyze massive amounts of data –one million events per second* – IBM’s new Cloud Private for Data is an integrated data science, data engineering and app building platform. Designed to help companies uncover previously unobtainable insights from their data, the platform is also designed to enable users to build and exploit event-driven applications capable of analyzing the torrents of data from things like IoT sensors, online commerce, mobile devices, and more.

In other words, the new solution is designed to provide a data infrastructure layer for AI behind the firewall.

IBM Launches Data Science Elite Team

Separately, IBM today announced the formation of the Data Science Elite Team – a new no-charge consultancy dedicated to solving clients’ real-world data science problems and to assisting them in their journey to AI.

According to a report from MIT Sloan, Reshaping Business with Artificial Intelligence, an estimated 85% of 3,000 business leaders surveyed believed artificial intelligence (AI) would enable competitive advantage, however, only about 1-in-5 have done anything about it. For many organizations, the task of understanding, organizing and managing their data at the enterprise level was too complex.

That’s where the new Data Science Elite Team comes in. This global team of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and decision optimization engineers is dedicated to assisting clients on-site to begin helping them better understand and control their data, and to start making machine learning an integral part of their business.

This switch can be used with either the 8U SuperBlade enclosure (SBE-820J) or the 6U SuperBlade enclosure (SBE-610J) and features twenty 25G downlink connections, four QSFP28 ports where each port can be configured as 40G or 100G uplink connections. Using splitter cables, individual 40G ports can be split into four 10G ports or the 100G port can be split into four 25G ports. Like the standard 25G ToR switch, the blade switch auto-negotiates and is compatible with 10G networking, providing customers a clear path to future 25G upgrades to their existing datacenter infrastructure. Customers who are familiar with the Blade networking management interface of MBM-GEM-004 will benefit from using a similar GUI/CLI interface with the new 25G switch. Additionally, it supports the latest networking protocols required for today’s datacenter and cloud infrastructure environments. The 25G mezzanine card that interfaces with the blade server supports RDMA/RoCE, DPDK, packet pacing, flow steering and Ethernet offloads.

25G Ethernet improves productivity in many diverse applications. For example, Web centric or e-commerce business models always drive demand for more network bandwidth. Similarly, high-performance computing (HPC), distributed applications and clustered databases need fast networks as well.
